Rev. Arthur Aaron Myers, a Congregational minister and his wife, Ellen came to Cumberland Gap in 1888. He successfully solicited the funds for a new church that included a schoolroom in the basement where Mrs. Myers taught regular classes. This was all accomplished by 1890 which is considered to be the birth date of the institution later assimilated into Lincoln Memorial University, the Harrow Academy. A statue honoring the Myers' will be unveiled adjacent to Alumni Park at the base of Grant-Lee Hill as part of this year's Homecoming activities.
