Continuing Education

Dr. Michael Toomey, recently retired Professor of History and former head of the Lincoln Liberal Arts Core Curriculum at Lincoln Memorial University, is keeping a busy summer schedule as he regularly speaks on various topics such as Abraham Lincoln, the American Civil War, and presidential politics to various community groups throughout East Tennessee. Yesterday, Dr. Toomey and local history educator Steve Reddick begab a 4-part series for the Oak Ridge Institute of Continued Learning at Roane State Community College, entitled, "Stay Calm: Controversial Presidential Elections in United States History." Future talks in this series will take place over the next few weeks on Tuesdays. In July, Dr. Toomey will also present a 3-part series on General George Armstrong Custer and his place in American Memory as part of Roane State's continuing education lecture series.
